Sitges strengthens its backing for congress and meetings tourism with new strategic actions

The Sitges Convention Bureau has started the year by taking part in strategic events in the MICE sector and business tourism. The goal is to strengthen its position as a leading destination in this realm of tourism

Sitges is stepping up its presence in congress and meetings tourism (MICE) with an extensive calendar of activities to continue as a leading MICE destination. The Sitges Convention Bureau is taking part in strategic events, familiarisation trips and networking initiatives, key actions for strengthening relations with the sector and generating new business opportunities.

Between January and February, in collaboration with ME Sitges and Terramar and Eurostars Sitges, more than 10 international professionals from Dutch and Korean markets visited Sitges on familiarisation trips to discover its MICE potential. These actions, with the support of the Councillor’s Office for Tourism at Sitges Town Council, also offered the chance to highlight the cultural options of the town’s museums and local gastronomy.

The Sitges Convention Bureau also has a strong presence in workshops and strategic work sessions. The CB is currently taking part in the MIS Madrid, with 31 appointments with professionals from the national market. Over the coming weeks it will also be taking part in the Global MICE Forum – Corporate Edition and All About People, an event focusing on the French market.

Networking is also a fundamental area of work during the early part of this year. Sitges CB will be present at the EMA Learn, a meeting with 50 managers for events in Catalonia, as well as the AEVEA Awards, an event that recognises the role of events organisation agencies and will be attended by over 500 professionals from the sector of marketing, events and communication.

The Councillor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, emphasised the work carried out by the CB. “The Sitges Convention Bureau carries out work which is fundamental in the promotion of business tourism, a key sector in our tourism strategy”, affirmed the councillor. “At the Councillor’s Office for Tourism we value its activity very highly as it contributes directly to the deseasonalisation of the destination and to increasing spending on local companies. Sitges is not just a tourism role model for leisure, but also a privileged location for congresses, events and incentive trips, which generate a positive economic impact in our business network”, observed Ripoll.

Break the Ice Forum

The most significant events this quarter include the Break the Ice Forum, to be held at the Hotel Calipolis from 27 to 29 March. This meeting offers a unique platform for creating synergies between companies in this sector, and at the same time introducing Sitges to the participants. The forum also adopts social responsibility measures, strengthening the destination’s commitment to sustainable tourism with a positive impact.

Sitges Convention Bureau

The Sitges Convention Bureau, which turns 20 this year, is the programme by the Councillor’s Office for Tourism that specialises in meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions tourism. Its tasks include providing advice for agencies, companies and associations wishing to organise their events and meetings in Sitges. The CB has received more than 20 information requests in the first 40 days of this year.
