As ever, Sitges has prepared a special programme to mark International Dance Day, which falls on 29 April. The Councillor’s Office for Culture at Sitges Town Council, with the support of organisations, associations and centres, is coordinating a programme of activities under the name of Dansa Sitges 2025, promoting this artistic discipline from 25 to 29 April.

Dance professionals and enthusiasts will be dancing in various spaces around the town over the five days, with various projects in store. The programme gets under way at 5 pm with “Dancing among books” at the Biblioteca Santiago Rusiñol. This is a chance to get a taste of contemporary dance by the Collective Dansa Studio. 

An hour later, at 6 pm, the traditional ‘Barra Oberta’ open classical dance session returns to Carrer de Port de n’Alegre (next to the Sant Sebastià beach). This year’s session will be directed by the dance teacher Elena Cester.

The following day, 26 April, brings the dance demonstrations by various centres in the town, this year in front of the Ermita de Sant Sebastià in the morning, from 11 am to 2 pm.  Performing will be: Justine Garner Dance School, IAB, Collective Dansa Studio, Associació Artística El Gato Azul, Esplai de Dansa Casino Prado and Contratiempo.

The programme continues in the outside yard at the library on 28 April, from 3.30 pm to 6.15 pm, with a taste of ‘castanyoles’ by El Prado de Sitges BALLA!, directed by Maite Ferré. Coinciding with International Dance Day, on 29 April, the Biblioteca Santiago Rusiñol will again be hosting the ‘Dancing among books’ activity in the outside yard at the library from 3.30 pm to 6.15 pm, and on the first floor and the terraces, by the Esplai de Dansa Casino Prado, directed by Sílvia Paretas. The adult ballet group from this centre will be performing from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm, followed by a Bollywood display from 5 pm to 5.30 pm and display by the children’s ballet group from 5.30 pm to 6 pm.

The Dance Gala rounds off the programme for the day in the Jardins del Casino Prado at 6 pm, also with the Espai de Dansa Casino Prado.
