Sitges vindicates the thirst for the word at the 17th Festa de la Poesia. Disset i “dir set”
Since its beginnings in 2007, the event's sole objective has been to bring homage to poets in an alternative and unique way. A tribute that is artisanal, playful, festive, collective and, above all, personalised.
This year, the six poets - all of them with solid careers and an unquestionable vocation - to whom La Festa will pay tribute with music, theatre, surprises, popular warmth and ‘rauxa sitgetana’ will be Ramon Guillem (Catarroja), Anna Vado (Vilafranca del Penedès), Joan Todó (La Sénia), Àngels Gregori (Oliva), Melcion Mateu (Barcelona) and, in Spanish, Neus Aguado (Córdoba, Argentina).
The Festival will be kicked off, as is tradition, by the popular and rusiñoliana Reception of the poets, with band music, parade and poetic balconies from which, among others, the actor Toni Sevilla, the actress Maria Molins and the writer and bookseller Iolanda Batallé will address the audience. The young poets Pol Vouillamouz, Mireia Casanyes and Ismael Sempere, together with the musicians Santi Careta (guitar) and Alba Careta (trumpet and voice), will be the stars of the first of the recital-concerts in homage to the guest poets, on Friday evening, 5 July, with the participation of the students of Normalització Lingüística. The following day, Saturday 6th in the afternoon, the theatre company La Tija will perform Captura d'ànimes, an intimate show with touches of humour based on the personalities of the poets. In addition, in the evening, Las Kol-lontai, with Sílvia Comes, Ivette Navidad, Meritxell Gené and Valen Nieto, will perform the pieces from the personalised concert of the Closing Recital, the climax of the Festival.
As the co-director of the Festival, Cèlia Sànchez-Mústich, explains, ‘during the weekend of homage to poets and the word, we will say disset, which sounds the same as.... dir set! to say thirst for poetry, to say thirst for a drop that, suspended in the cosmic silence, ente assadolli beyond a drop by drop of survival’. In turn, Joan Duran, co-director, remarks that, ‘once again, events such as the Poets’ Lunch, the visit to the Poetic Showcases or the chosen Pleasures, the Dinar dels poetes, the visit to the Aparadors poètics or the Plaers triats -the latter are offered exclusively to the guest authors-, will be a reflection of this unique and unrepeatable model of Festival that aims, above all, to embrace the poets’.
La Festa de la Poesia is supported by the Ajuntament de Sitges, the Museus de Sitges and the a Sociedad Recreativa El Retiro, among others. It also obtains part of its resources thanks to a crowdfunding project on Verkami (https://vkm.is/poesia2024). It was conceived and is directed by the poets Cèlia Sànchez-Mústich and Joan Duran i Ferrer. In the 2024 edition, the Palau de Maricel's Salón de Oro, the Miramar-Centre Cultural, the Santiago Rusiñol library, the Escola Pia auditorium, the Sociedad Recreativa El Retiro assembly hall and the streets of Sitges will be the setting for the Festival's various artistic and poetic proposals.
