The tenth edition of the Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival brings together more than 400 participants in the town
Sitges is once again a great showcase of the world of chess until December 22 as part of the Chessable Sunway Sitges International Chess Festival. This year, this championship celebrates its tenth anniversary and has become a world benchmark for chess and gathers 431 participants in Sitges, of which 80 are women. The Sunway Hotel welcomes the players, together with their families and their companions, coming from 55 countries such as the United States, India, France, Singapore, Germany, Argentina, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Sweden, Mexico and England, among d others Also competing in this tournament are 9 Catalan players, of which 5 are from Sitges.
The competition opened this Tuesday, December 12, and will end on the 22nd of this month, coinciding with the presentation of the prizes. 10 rounds will be played over 11 days. Featured high-level players include 36 Grandmasters such as Leiner Domínguez, Kirill Alexeyevich Alekseenko and Aravindh Chithambaram Veerappan. There are also 45 International Masters and 9 Female Grandmasters, Throughout the competition you will also be able to see Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, a 12-year-old Turkish boy, who is number 1 in the under-12 world, and the Russian Grandmaster, 17-year-old Volodar Murzin.
The games are played from 4.30pm and the public is allowed to enter the four rooms, where the championship is played. They can also be followed live on the championship website (www.sunwaychessfestival.com) and through several channels specialized in chess on YouTube.
