Launch of the ‘Xató Route’ for 2024-2025

The inauguration ceremony was held this Tuesday at Can Milà and allowed visitors to taste the different varieties of this traditional dish from the regions of Garraf, Alt Penedès and Baix Penedès.

The ‘Xató Route’ for the 2024-2025 season in Sitges was inaugurated on Tuesday. The goal is to promote this iconic dish through an initiative that unites gastronomy, tourism and culture.

The Sitges - Can Milà tourist office was the scene of the opening ceremony for the 28th Xató Route, naming Roser Torras Morató, a well-known figure in the world of gastronomy, as its new ambassador. This year’s route is made up of the municipalities of Sitges, Calafell, El Vendrell, Vilafranca del Penedès, Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cunit.

The Xató Route is a gastronomy initiative based around Xató, a salad dish typical of this region and made with scarola endive leaves, salted cod, tuna, anchovies, arbequina olives and xató sauce, made from almonds, hazelnuts, nyora pepper, garlic, vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. This sauce is a key part of the dish and provides its characteristic flavour, with sweet and savoury touches and a creamy texture.

The Xató Route includes various festivals, cooking workshops and tourist trails based around this dish from November to April, held in municipalities such as Sitges, Calafell, El Vendrell, Vilafranca del Penedès, Vilanova i la Geltrú and Cunit.

The Xató Route is a good opportunity to discover the culinary and cultural heritage of Sitges and the rest of participating municipalities, enjoy its specialities and get closer to an authentic experience, firmly rooted in local history.
