From May 17 to June 28, Sitges opens the door to Pride with a cultural and recreational program

This Friday the institutional event for the International Day against LGTB-phobia will be held with the aim of raising awareness among citizens about the violence and discrimination suffered by people from the group.

Sitges begins this week a cultural and leisure program to promote LGBTIQ+ Pride, from May 17 to June 28. With the motto 'Open the door to Pride', the activities organized by the Sitges City Council and Colors Sitges Link come together, from May 17, on the occasion of the International Day against LGTI-Phobia, until June 28, coinciding with International Pride Day.

 

The Department of Civil Rights presents a wide range of proposals around May 17 with the aim of raising awareness about the discrimination and violence suffered by people from the LGTBIQ+ group. The institutional event, organized by the LGTBIQ+ Colors Sitges Link association, with the collaboration of the Sitges City Council, will be the central event of the commemoration and will take place this Friday at 7 p.m. in front of the monument against homophobia, located on the Passeig Marítimo a the height of Estanyol Beach.

 

The commemoration will also include a floral offering, the reading of the institutional manifesto and also the manifesto prepared by Colors Sitges Link, which will be read in three languages (Catalan, Spanish and English). Prior to the institutional event, a walk will take place from the Plaza del Ajuntament to the monument against homophobia.

 

A set of cultural and recreational proposals are also scheduled around the International Day against LGTB-phobia, including a talk on the 'security culture today' with Robert Monzonis or a poetic Vermouth by Glòria Bosch accompanied by the guitar of Margherita Lella, among others.

 

The agenda linked to June 28 (28J), International Pride Day, will include the events of the month of June organized by the Sitges City Council and also the proposals that are promoted by local entities to vindicate the sexual and gender diversity of the LGTBIQ+ group. Among the activities, Sitges Pride stands out, which will be held from June 5 to 9 with cultural, social and protest events. The highlight of this event will be the pride parade, like every year, starting at 5 p.m. on Passeig de la Ribera. The Department of Civil Rights has made a preview of two programming proposals related to International LGBTI Pride Day, and organized by Colors Sitges Link. On June 8, the talk 'And you... How do you know you are NOT trans?' will be scheduled. by Valentina Berr will feature the collaboration of Gemma Polo will take place at 12 noon at the Palau del Rei Moro. On the same day at six in the afternoon there will be a presentation of the book We Will Get Married in Las Vegas and Other Stories by Lluís Rodríguez. The event will be presented by the writer Pablo Westling. The rest of the programming related to the celebration around 28J will be announced soon through social networks and the municipal portal www.sitges.cat.

 

International Day against LGTI-phobia

 

The International Day against LGTBI-phobia is commemorated on May 17 to remember that on that same day in 1990 the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses.
