A Strategic Plan for Accessible Tourism is created in Sitges
Sitges develops a Strategic Plan for Accessible Tourism. The document establishes 4 main axes of work with 31 actions to make Sitges a friendlier destination getting environments, services and technologies usable by the largest possible number of people.
Following the indications of the DTI Master Plan and the Tourism Sustainability Plan, the Department of Tourism has carried out a Strategic Plan for Accessible Tourism, a project co-financed by the Diputació de Barcelona and the Ajuntament de Sitges. For the preparation of the study, public and private resources, heritage, cultural, tourism companies, routes and natural environments have been audited.
In addition, interviews have been conducted with agents of the public sector, disability and tourism, as well as citizen surveys to know first-hand the needs of agents of the territory. Equalitas Accesibilidad, a partner company of the DTI Network, has been in charge of the diagnostic work and the drafting of the Plan. After a thorough analysis of all the steps of the accessibility chain, which has allowed to identify gaps and areas of opportunity more relevant, is defined in the Plan with a catalog of solutions.
The Plan, which establishes 4 strategic lines and 31 actions, will become the roadmap that the destination will have to follow, in terms of accessibility, to make Sitges an inclusive tourist destination for all people. These 4 lines, in which the Plan proposes to work in the Ajuntament de Sitges in the short, medium and long term, are:
- Management and planning of accessible tourism
- Awareness and training in tourist accessibility
- Development and improvement of accessible tourism
- Promotion and inclusive communication.
Some of the actions highlighted in this plan are, for example, the creation of a working group with technicians from public administrations and companies committed to the accessibility of the sector, the development of an inclusive beach model, create a tourism section accessible to the official tourism website sitgesanytime.com or give and receive training in creating inclusive tourism experiences, among others. In addition, all companies and resources, which have voluntarily participated in the project, will receive a specific analysis of their accessibility and a proposal for improvement actions.
