Between March and April, the Department of Tourism activates more than 30 tourism promotion actions
During the months of March and April, the Tourism Department of the Sitges City Council intensifies promotional actions to attract tourists who adapt to the needs of the destination, based on available studies. These needs are included in the 2022-2026 Marketing Plan.
Among the notable actions are attention to press trips, attention to familiarization trips (tour operators); inspection visits and participation in professional business conferences.
On the 24th and 25th, a work day on Premium tourism will be held with businessmen, technicians and politicians from the Irish region of Cork focused on food and wine. Over four days they will visit Sitges, Barcelona and also Penedès wineries. In Sitges there will be a presentation, in which local businessmen such as the La Salseta restaurant and also the Joan Ramón Benaprès Institute will participate. The Irish delegation will enjoy the wine tourism experiences of Sitges with a visit to Olor de Most and the Marine Ranch of the Sitges Malvasía Interpretation Center and the Fishermen's Guild.
The first week of May, the Department of Tourism will host a trip for Virtuoso agents, the main network of premium travel agents in the United States. Tourism will also attend promotional actions with international projection in Toledo and the Netherlands.
At the same time, a press trip was also attended with the main Estonian national press and television media, who visited Barcelona and Sitges to see spaces such as the Picasso Museum and the Cau Ferrat Museum in Sitges on the occasion of the exhibition 'Black and white Spain. The vision of Hispanic art, from "Fortuny to Picasso" and which will be exhibited at the Kadriorg National Art Museum in Tallinn, between April 12 and September 1, 2024. Due to its capacity to influence the Nordic countries, this trip is especially interesting to gain visibility in source markets with a lot of spending capacity and interested in cultural and sustainable issues.
This April, the Department of Tourism attended the event convened by the Generalitat of Catalonia that gave the starting signal to Catalonia as the capital of the World Gastronomy 2025 region. Sitges is one of the first destinations to join the project. Along these same lines, initiatives from the Sitges Hospitality Guild such as Sitges Tapa en Tapa have been supported.
Business tourism
The Sitges Convention Bureau, a program focused on business tourism, continues its promotional work abroad. In the coming weeks he will attend two international workshops, one in Madrid and another in London, the latter specialized in the pharmaceutical field. It is also planned that in May the Department of Tourism will participate in three commercial actions focused on the European issuing markets with the aim of making the offer known to operators, which are added to the six international commercial actions through which it has been reached a total of 360 meeting and conference organizers.
All these actions bear fruit and translate into requests for quotes for meetings and conferences in the municipality to later be held in Sitges. In 2024, 78 requests have been managed and the commitment of the automotive and mobility sector to the destination has been reaffirmed. Toyota and Volvo have organized presentations in Sitges, and Lexus has launched the new Lexus LBX in its dealer network. As for congresses, during the month of April Sitges hosts 5 medical congresses from national and international associations.
