The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has published a report with the results of the classification of the quality of bathing water in Catalonia. According to this study, the analyses carried out this summer in Sitges give an Excellent rating to the 9 beaches analyzed in the municipality: Les Tiendas, El Garraf, Aiguadolç, Els Balmins, San Sebastián beach, de la Ribera, del Estanyol, de la Barra and Terramar beach.

Throughout Catalonia, 254 beaches have been sampled. Of these, 232 coastal bathing areas were classified as Excellent (91.3%), 19 as Bona (7.5%), 2 as Sufficient (0.8%) and 1 as Insufficient (0.4%).

In the 2023 classification, data from the period 2020-2023 have been considered and in coastal bathing areas (with 9 programmed controls per season), data from 36 controls carried out in this period have been treated. Since 2004, more than 90% of the Catalan beaches have achieved the qualification of Excellent. The high quality and stability of the water on the beaches of Catalonia is closely related to the sanitation infrastructures that collect and treat wastewater from coastal and near-shore municipalities before it is discharged into the sea.
