Christmas Lights Sitges 2023

Sitges will turn on the Christmas lights on December 1

Sitges will officially kick off the Christmas campaign on December 1 with the Christmas lights switching on event. This year the Sitges City Council has decided to delay the opening of the Christmas decorations for a few days as a saving measure to reduce energy consumption. The Christmas lighting in the streets of the town will operate from next Friday until January 6.
Over 37 days, a total of 325 Christmas lighting figures and also 4 special lightings will be lit in different spaces of the town with a total installed power of 20.6 kW. This special Christmas lighting will be located at the Cap de la Vila, at the Town Hall (Casa de la Villa), at the Plaza Cataluña roundabout and at the roundabout where the sculpture by Xavier Corberó is located (Avenida Camí de Capellans con Paseo de Vilafranca).
The Councilor for Image and Public Roads, Cristina Guiu, assures that “the savings margin this year is small because right now a reduction can only be made in days” but adds that “we must apply new systems that allow us to advance even further in the energy savings of our municipality.”
To define the lighting days, the City Council has taken into account energy savings, but also commercial activity. The Councilor for Economic Promotion, David Martínez, highlights that “the lighting of the Christmas lighting has the objective of promoting local commerce and at the same time contributing to promoting conscious and responsible consumption in the town, in our country. This time is key for businesses" and adds that "hence we have reinforced the Christmas atmosphere with other decorative elements to help the economic revitalization of the town and to have a good Christmas campaign."
The Christmas lighting used in Sitges is a low-consumption LED system. The decoration is completed with more efficient alternatives such as the incorporation of elements without lighting but that reflect light (such as leaves or stars). In addition, these elements maintain their decorative character during the day, when the lights are not on.
The Christmas decoration also presents some new features such as the installation of spheres in the shape of a Christmas ball, reindeer and gifts, which will be located in the streets of the commercial hub in the center of the town.
To maintain the Christmas spirit and complement the decoration without energy consumption, more than 1,000 linear meters of Christmas pennants will be placed in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and Plaça Catalunya.
Christmas Lights Switching Event – Free chocolate and live music
The Sitges City Council will turn on the Christmas lights on December 1 in an event that will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Cap de la Vila from where the Christmas lighting will simultaneously be turned on in the streets of the municipality.
