Celebration of the first harvest of Malvasia vineyards from Sitges, located at the Can Milà Visitor Centre

The vineyard, with about 50 vines of the most significant local variety, brings the historical legacy closer to tourists and visitors

The Tourist Office - Can Milà, has had for two years a plantation of about 50 Malvasia de Sitges vines to show tourists, visitors and citizens in general the wine legacy of Sitges. In 2021, the Celler de l'Hospital and the Malvasia Interpretation Center (CIM), with the collaboration of the Sitges City Council, planted these vines and the harvest has already been carried out for the first time, which this year has been brought forward due to the heat. In this vineyard the production of grapes is limited, but the bottles of wine will be part of the harvest of the Celler de l'Hospital de Sant Joan Baptista de Sitges.

The Councilor for Tourism, Brandon Jones, highlights that "the Sitges City Council maintains its firm commitment to vindicate and promote the Malvasia of Sitges, a very emblematic product of the town, which already put Sitges on the map in the fourteenth century, and that now projects us as a boost and an important asset as a benchmark for wine tourism and cultural tourism. With the Can Milà vineyard, we value even more the wine culture of Sitges because the will of both the City Council and the Celler de l'Hospital is to preserve the historical legacy of Manuel Llopis i Bofill".

At the same time, Can Milà is one of the places where the last Malvasia vines of the Robert wineries were cultivated, one of those that lasted until the 20thcentury, together with those of the winery of the Joan Baptista Hospital in Sitges.

The current vineyard of the Can Milà Visitor Services Office is the result of a project that also planted other vines in two more spaces in 2021: the Joan Ramon Benaprès Institute and the Miquel Utrillo School with the aim of recovering the vineyard under the asphalt.
